Patsy Jean Baumgardner

COLUMBUS, Ga. — A light has gone out; without so much as a flicker, and all we have left; is the precious memory of how brightly it burned; and the warmth she gave us as Patsy Jean Baumgardner passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, in Columbus, Ga.

Born Aug. 24, 1934, in a cabin at Oak Creek, Colo., she then moved to become a native to Hegeler-Home Gardens community of Danville. For the best part of her last 35 years, she was a resident of Columbus, Ga., after having lived in Danville (Hegeler) and Norfolk, Va.

Her parents, Thomas and Codene Gooch; a brother, Linley Gooch; sisters, Betty Gooch, Frances Shepherd; and daughter, Manonn Patterson, predeceased Patsy.

Left to cherish her memory are: husband of 32 years, George Baumgardner, of Columbus, Ga.; brothers, Joe and wife, Anne Gooch, of Reno, Nev., and Thomas and wife, Ethel Gooch, of Indianola; sons, Francis (Rusty) and wife, Sandra Patterson, of Norfolk, Va., Shawn and wife, Janet Patterson, of Greenville, S.C., and Linley and wife, Brook Patterson, of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughter LiLana and husband, Dean Teabo, of North Carolina; former husband, Francis Patterson; grandchildren, Candy Patterson, Dean Teabo, George Teabo, Eric Teabo and Alaina Patterson; great-grandchild, Chase Patterson; and many loving nieces and nephews and friends.

Patsy was a made true Southern lady, gracious, kind, gentle, who loved casinos, reading, good gossip and helping rebuild homes. Patsy was a cat lover who always ended up feeding the entire neighborhood of feral, stray and pet cats. Her favorite calling was, “Here, kitty kitty. Here, kitty kitty. Come here.” She tamed the meanest, wildest cats into becoming lovable cats.

Patsy has had to face many hardships in her life, but she battled on against all adversity, always continuing to display great courage with her truly fierce, independent nature and responsibilities, as family and friends will attest to.

A memorial service will be scheduled in Norfolk, Va., at her daughter Manonn Patterson’s grave.

Please do not shed any tears, as my life has just begun. When you see the sun shining, that is me smiling at you. When you hear the wind blowing, that is me whispering in your ear “I Love you.” When it is raining, those are the tears from heaven wishing you were here with me. When the snow is on the ground white and glisten, that is the robe that I have set aside for you.

Please be happy, and I promise we will meet again. Don’t grieve for me for now I am free. I am following the path God laid for me.
