RANKIN —
Mildred Rosetta Newman, 95, of Rankin, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Heritage Manor Rehabilitation and Senior Living Center in Hoopeston.
Mildred was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Hoopeston, daughter of Albert Connor and Mary (Malady) Connor.
Mildred married Hugh Newman on Dec. 29, 1938, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rankin. He preceded her in death.
She also is survived by seven sons, Michael Newman of Grand Bay, Ala., Larry (Debra) Newman of Bloomington, Jack (Mary) Newman of Rockton, Steve Newman of Lakeland, Fla., Mark (Julie) Newman of Rankin, Bill (Vickie) Newman of Sullivan, Ind., and Nick (Kathy) Newman of Arlington, Texas; seven daughters, Nancy (Gene) Brenner of Wheaton, Clementine (Duane) Carder of Peotone, Patty (Tom) Johnson of Kankakee, Connie (Preston) Mallon of Dauphin Island, Ala., Sarah (Jack) Miller of Hoopeston, Cindy (Steve) Collins of Mackinaw, and Joan (John) Lonero of Lombard; two sisters-in-law, Carol Newman of Hoopeston, and Catherine Houmes of Clifton; 45 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; four sisters; one daughter, Penny; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Mildred was a dedicated homemaker and a loving mother. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rankin for many years and later a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston.
She belonged to the Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society in Rankin for many years. Mildred enjoyed gardening and sewing, especially making sock monkeys for her family members. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with all of her family and friends.
A visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. Rosary services will be conducted at 7 p.m. following visitation. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 423 S. Third St., Hoopeston, with Father Patrick O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow services at the Rankin Union Cemetery in Rankin.
