WESTVILLE —
Lottie Mae Caruthers, 83, of Westville, went to be with the Lord at 7:59 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. She had been in ill health for over a year.
She was born May 2, 1929, in Jonesboro, Ark., the daughter of Hiawatha and LaVerda Eden Bullard.
Lottie was an avid gardener and loved to crochet and read the Bible. She was a CNA at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home and was involved in Home Healthcare.
Lottie was a Vermilion County Republican election judge for over 30 years. She was a member of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church. Lottie sang with the “Spiritual Connection” for over 20 years. They sponsored the Women’s Convention for 15 years. She was always willing to give a helping hand. Her generosity was extended to all, from delivering food to the sick and shut-in to helping out everyone who she met.
Lottie was united in marriage March 22, 1945, in Union City, Tenn., to John Braden Caruthers Jr. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1992.
She is survived by two sons, John Caruthers and William (Glenda) Caruthers, both of Danville; two daughters, Euraina Cross of Westville and Wendy Coe of Danville; 13 grandchildren, Damon, Kimberly and Jennaya Cross, William, Philip and David Caruthers, Daren and Dane Severado, Davion and Albert Jr. Isaac, Chaze, Alexius and Aerial Caruthers; 16 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous foster children, friends and relatives.
She was preceded by her parents, four brothers and five sisters.
A home going celebration will commence at noon Friday, Feb. 22, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Bishop Christopher Smithey. Viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery.
