RANTOUL —
Vada E. Irvin, 89, of Rantoul, formerly of Danville, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 401 Glenwood Dr., Rantoul. The Rev Ken Crawford will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church.
She was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Collison, a daughter of James and Icie (Seel) Irvin.
She married the Rev. George Desmond on Aug. 2, 1942, in Champaign. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1994. She then married Charles Irvin on March 15, 1997, in Rantoul. He survives.
Also surviving are a son, George (Kimberly) Desmond of Danville; two daughters, Judy (Rollin) Gieker of Matthews, N.C., and Sue (John Broderick) Durnell of Danville; two bonus children, Stephen (Jane) Irvin of Westerville, Ohio, and Janet (Steve) Gray of Rantoul; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.
Vada was involved in her husband’s ministry for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church, on loan to First Baptist Church of Rantoul. She loved to travel, with the highlight being her trip to the Holy Land. Vada also was an adamant Cardinals fan, but first and foremost, she loved and served her Lord.
Memorials may be made to the American Bible Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
