Bessie Jane White

GEORGETOWN — Bessie Jane White, 83, of Georgetown, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville.

She was born July 24, 1929, in Humrick, Ill., to Roy “Bub” and Almira Abigail (Ray) Ross.

She was wed to Glen White on Jan. 31, 1947, in Newport, Ind. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1999.

She will be dearly missed by her sons, Charles (Erna Gene) White of Marshall, Norlyn R. (Linda) White of Terre Haute, Ind., Anthony Wayne (Theresa) White of Covington, Ind., Gary Joe (Artie) White of Jasonville, Ind., Jimmie R. (Renee) White of Perrysville, Ind., and Glen Andrew (Rosemary) White of Catlin; her daughters, Glenda (Lester) Lohman of South Carolina, Lana Sue (Roger Holcomb) Taylor of Robinson, and Teara Dawn (Richard) Kincade of Georgetown; her 36 grandchildren; her many great-grandchildren; her several great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, James Norman (Phyllis) Ross of Georgetown, and Omer (Esther) Ross of Tilton; her sister, Clara Pitts of Paris; her special friend, Steve Allen Miller; and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughters, Lois Marie Ross and Leona White; and her brother, Sam Ross.

Bessie Jane was known as the first homecoming queen at Ridge Farm High School. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and singing. She enjoyed Westerns, Betty Boop and was a good cook. She also enjoyed watching wrestling. Most of all, Bessie Jane cherished her family and loved being with them.

A celebration of Bessie Jane’s life will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Chapel, 200 E. West St., Georgetown, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery.
