POTOMAC —
H. Norma Franklin, 88, of Washington, passed away at 3:51 p.m. Oct. 3, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
She was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Potomac, to Harry L. and Hazel (Alexander) Perry.
She married Tyrus R. Franklin, her lifelong friend of 88 years, on Sept. 1, 1950. He survives. Other survivors include her daughter, Toni (Robert) Henry, of Sulphur, La.; as well as one grandson, Nicholas (Kristen) Stodd, of Mandeville, La.
She is preceded in death by both parents.
A graduate of Potomac High School, she attended the University of Illinois where she earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.
Norma began her teaching career at Potomac High School and Henning High School. She later joined the original faculty of Richwoods High School in Peoria in 1957, as a business education teacher and went on to become chairman of the business education department. She also taught business education at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. Norma retired from teaching in 1983.
Norma will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother as well as a good friend and neighbor who will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank all the friends and neighbors, with special acknowledgement to Rex and Paula Winemiller, of Washington, for all their love and support during her illness.
There will be no visitation at the family’s request. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 5, at the Potomac Cemetery in Potomac, with Pastor Sally Swaim of the Potomac Methodist Church officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Potomac Methodist Church in Norma’s name.
