David Eugene “Dave” Johnson

OAKWOOD — David Eugene “Dave” Johnson, 58, of Oakwood, formerly of Hoopeston, passed away at 12:09 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at his home in Oakwood, with his family surrounding him.

He was born Sept. 28, 1954, in Gallipolis, Ohio, son of Robert Johnson Sr. and Virginia (Reynolds) Johnson.

David married Rhonda Ann Robling on Oct. 2, 1976, at the Westside Nazarene Church in Hoopeston. She survives in Oakwood.

Survivors include one son, Chuck (Marci) Johnson of Fairmount; two daughters, Madonna (Rob) Wahlfeldt of Danville and Brandi (Jason Andres) Johnson Highfill of Catlin; two brothers, Bob (Ruth) Johnson of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Dusty (Nancy) Johnson of Orlinda, Tenn.; one sister, Robin (Jerry) Smith of Hoopeston; one brother-in-law, Mike (Debbie) Robling of Rossville; six grandchildren, Jordan and Chelsea Flint, Lexi and Luke Dice, Tate Johnson and Cody Highfill; several nieces and nephews; and Jared Hooks of Oakwood, who was like a very special son to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and an infant sister.

After David and Rhonda were married in Hoopeston, they moved to Florida where they resided for 13 years until their recent home in Oakwood.

David worked at the Joan of Arc in Hoopeston and later worked at the Mechanical Services of Central Florida as a sheet metal mechanic. Dave was a union steward president for the IBEW-Essex Union.

Dave enjoyed doing charitable work for the Toys for Tots in Florida. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and was a huge Jimmy Johnson NASCAR fan.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. Funeral services will begin at               10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Anderson Funeral Home in Hoopeston, with Mike Robling officiating. Burial will follow funeral services at the Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Memorials may be made to the Mills Breast Cancer Institute at Carle, 509 W. University Ave., Urbana, IL 61801.
