William “Bill” Alen Downs

OLIVET — William “Bill” Alen Downs, 53, of Olivet, passed away at 8:06 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville.

He was born to James and Lucille Landis Downs Sr. on Sept. 22, 1959, in Danville.

He was united in marriage to Marsone “Marcie” Garrigus on Jan. 8, 1993, in Danville. She will miss him dearly.

He also will be missed by his daughter, Bobbi (Terry) Reed of Sidell, and her children, Maranda and Russell Reed; his daughter, Kayla Key (Kevin) of Veedersburg, Ind., and her daughter, Kendra Amos; his brother, James (Janet) Downs Jr. of Ridge Farm; his sisters, Pat Ellies (Shorty) of Flora and Sandy (Jim) Phillips of Ridge Farm; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Coco. His parents preceded him in death.

Bill worked as a production technician at Pioneer Hi-Bred International for 34 years. He had many friends with whom he enjoyed hanging out. He enjoyed going mushroom hunting, watching Illinois basketball games and bowling. He also loved making his bologna salad/oyster dressing and sharing with family and friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A celebration of Bill’s life will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm.
