Dwight served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954, and he was active in the U.S.S. Windham Bay Reunion Group. He will be remembered for his time as president of the group and his role as auctioneer for their annual auction, a skill he developed at Reisch Auction School, Mason City, Iowa. He served the Armstrong Township High School as an active member of the school board from 1971 – 1984, and he served Harwood Township (Champaign County) as supervisor and road commissioner.

In 1985, he moved to Pittsburg, Kan., where he fulfilled a life-long dream of becoming a pilot, and he joined the Girard Flying Club. He loved music and enjoyed worshipping with and serving as song leader for the church of Christ in Pittsburg, Kan. As a young man, he played trumpet with the Dream Beats. He traveled extensively, beginning with trips on the Windham Bay and continuing with driving and camping trips through each state and the provinces of Canada. His travels took him to six continents. Now he is at rest.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Caring for Kenya, a faith-based humanitarian 501c3 organization that shares God’s love through agriculture, education, health care, water and community development to the needy people in mountainous eastern Kenya. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, Kan., 66762. E-mail condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com.
