Richard G. Schultz

DANVILLE — Richard G. Schultz, 87, of Danville, died at 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at North Logan Health Care Center.

A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 444 E. Main St., in Danville with the Rev. Ted Pracz officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Pape Memorial Home, 10 E. Williams St. in Danville, with honor guard by Knights of Columbus. Rosary will be held at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday at Pape Memorial Home. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 210.

Memorials may be made to Holy Family Church.

Richard was born on Oct. 19, 1925, in Danville, to Herman and Rena (Marster-Jardine) Schultz.

He attended Fairchild and Liberty schools and Danville High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps and serving from 1944 through 1946 during World War II. Richard later attended trade school and became a pressman for the Commercial-News, which he did for 35 years until his retirement in 1987.

He was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, American Legion Post 210, a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Illini Bass Club. Richard loved to hunt and fish, holding the record for the biggest largemouth bass caught in any state park for several years.

On Nov. 1, 1947, in Paris, he married Barbara Ann Bond, who preceded him in death on July 13, 2010.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy (David) Lutchka; a son, Scott Schultz; three grandchildren, Aaron Carson, Sarah Lutchka and Nicole Lutchka; six great-grandchildren, Amber Carson, Elizabeth Carson, Michelle Carson, Bianca Rodriguez, Ivan Rodriguez and one more that is on the way; and a brother, Ted Schultz.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother Charles William Schultz.
