DANVILLE — Shirley Denney, 83, of Danville, passed away on Jan. 3, 2013, at Hawthorne Inn in Danville.

She was born Nov. 19, 1929, the daughter of Arlo and Lucille (Shain) Furrow.

She married Jack Denney on Feb. 27, 1947, in Danville. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Surviving her are one son, Robert (Carol) Denney of Danville; one daughter, Linda Chappell of Maine; five grandchildren, Cathy (Steve) Rogers of Danville, Tamara New of Danville, Caron Denney of Danville, Carla (Kevin) Murphy of Maine, and Jennifer (James) Speranza of Maine; six great-grandchildren; and one special friend, Judith Parker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Debbie Denney; and one brother.

Shirley worked for many years as a cashier at Winthers Bakery, GE, Kmart Foods and Kroger until retiring in 1984. She loved doing yard work.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. A visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday prior to the service. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.

Memorials can be made in lieu of flowers to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, 218 W. Lawrence St., Springfield, IL 62704.
