CARMEL, Ind. —
Gregory Joel Jenkins, 55, of Carmel, Ind., passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013.
Greg was born Nov. 7, 1957, in Danville, Ill., the son of Anabeth Thomas Jenkins Lallish and Horace J. (“Jenks”) Jenkins.
Greg graduated from Danville High School in 1975 and went to Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Ind., graduating in 1981 with a degree in engineering technology. Greg relocated after being employed by RCA in Indianapolis, where he met the love of his life, Dana Lea Michelle, and whom he married April 30, 1987.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Greg is survived by two children, Crystal L. Jenkins, 23, and Thomas R. Jenkins, 21; a sister, Janet (Bob) Martin, of Georgetown; and a brother, Bill (Heather) Jenkins, of Danville; nephews, Jeff and Brian James, Evan and Ryan Jenkins and Cole Cunningham; and a great-niece, Emilee A. James, whom he loved dearly.
Greg loved his job and had many wonderful and supportive colleagues throughout his time with RCA, later Thomson, and more recently Technicolor.
His hobbies included bowling, golfing, reading and traveling. Greg appreciated the beauty of this earth. Greg enjoyed taking pictures while traveling and was proud to share them with us. Holidays were dear to him, and he looked forward to being with his family during Christmas especially.
Greg never lost his spirit of hope. He believed with all of his heart that he would live on despite the serious diagnosis he received in April 2011. Greg often remarked he “wasn’t going anywhere.” He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor, and, as his colleagues will attest, it was difficult to get “one up” on Greg!
Greg enjoyed cooking and later in life became quite a talented chef. He even mastered his own pulled pork recipe and a made-from-scratch cherry pie.
Greg communicated and reconnected with many of his childhood friends and family members through Facebook, and the outpouring of love, support and prayers is greatly appreciated.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, Feb. 14, at his church, Carmel Lutheran in Carmel, Ind., with calling one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carmel Lutheran Church, 4850 E. Main St., Carmel, IN 46033 or Labor of Love Ministries, 980 Stewartstown Road, Morgantown, WV 26501. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
