DANVILLE —
James Joseph Curry, 81, of Danville, passed away at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Danville.
Jim was born May 4, 1931, in Urbana, to Silas M. and Georgia H. Curry of Strasburg, Ill., who preceded him in death.
Survivors include one brother, David (Sharon), of Deming, N.M.; two nieces, Lynn A. Harcarik of Munford, Tenn., and Adrienne Beth Damilano of Danville; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jim attended public schools in Danville and Danville Junior College prior to receiving both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at University of Illinois. Upon graduation, he spent two years in the U.S. Army before accepting a teaching position in District 214 in the northwest Chicago area. He taught high school Spanish until he retired in 1986, when he returned to Danville.
In retirement, he enjoyed the company of good friends Harold and Pat French and Richard Hall, among others.
One of Jim’s lifelong interests was his love of animals. He was a lifetime member of the American Zoological Association. While in the military, he developed a strong desire to travel and during his lifetime visited most of the countries in the world and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. Jim made a point to visit as many zoos as possible, both small and large. As a member of a local reading group he fulfilled his other loves … reading and eating!
