John Michael Brown, 68, of Danville, passed away at 5:08 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital from complications of his heart condition.
John was born July 30, 1944, in Danville, to Roy and Edna Cosat Brown, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; nephew, Michael Brandt; and his infant twin sons (from his second marriage with Pat) Aaron and Brian Brown.
John married Elizabeth Greenwood on Feb. 14, 1970. They divorced in March, 1983. They have a daughter, Kirsten Brown (fiancée Chris LaBounty). John married Patricia Trosper (Bullington) on May 14, 1983, and also gained a step-son, Wade R. Trosper, all surviving. John is also survived by a brother, Roy Leon (Barbara) Brown, Jr. of Grayson, Ky.; a sister, Marilyn Brandt of Ariz., formerly of Georgetown; several nieces and nephews and a very special 3-year-old grandson, Jaxson Michael LaBounty (son of Kirsten Brown and Chris LaBounty). Jaxson was the joy of his life.
John attended Northeast School, Fairchild Grade School and graduated from Danville High School. John served in the Navy after high school where he received training for military fireman and nuclear power plant operation plus training in nuclear submarine prototype operations. John served as a machinist mate working in the engine room on the USS Long Beach. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. John’s service was from October 1965 through April 1969.
John was a 32nd degree Mason with Anchor Lodge No. 980 of Danville since 1980. After the Navy, John received his Associate Degree from DACC. He worked at Newport Power Plant, Hyster and Brandt Truck Lines in Bloomington. He retired from Lebanon Chemical Plant. He also worked a short time at CCL and Walmart.
John would spend time with Jaxson in his shop and riding their tractors around the yard. John enjoyed having coffee each morning with high school friends –– Danny and Ralph Burmeister, Bill Russell and Pete Holst. He enjoyed eating breakfast with his friend Bill Carpenter. He enjoyed Illinois basketball and football and enjoyed trading cars. John was a good and loving family man. His family always came first.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the VA Protestant Chapel, with Rev. Miles Clark officiating. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at the VA Chapel.
