Local Roundup: DACC soccer loses in OT to Parkland

CHAMPAIGN —  The Danville Area Community College soccer team was just minutes away from a win over Parkland College.

Douglas deAndrade scored in the 88th minute for the Cobras and Khody Ellis scored with less than two minutes left in the second overtime to give Parkland a 2-1 win over the DACC Jaguars.

“The guys really played well, but we just came a few minutes short of a win,’’ DACC coach Dave Barney said.

The Jaguars (1-3) took a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the contest on a goal by Daniel Iglesias.

That was the score for the next 80 minutes.

Parkland keeper Bosko Kovacevic of Serbia recorded 11 saves, while DACC’s Adam Barr had five.

The Jaguars are back in action on Thursday with a 4 p.m. contest against Rend Lend at Winter Park.

Pierce finishes strong for OAP


DANVILLE — Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac runner Ciara Pierce took second with a time of 20 minutes in a dual meet against St. Joseph-Ogden at Kickapoo State Park.

Karissa Nelson was 10th (25:45) and Cassidy Beck took 11th (25:46) for the Comets, who scored 44 which was second to the Spartans’ 19.

In the boys race, Brandon Divan was the high finisher for OAP at 18:42, which was good for sixth.

Austin Johnson was ninth (20:41) and Erik Tharp was 10th (20:45) for the Comets, who scored 48 to the Spartans’ 15.

FAIRMOUNT — Mat Bowen shot a 37 as the Storm remained undefeated by beating Tri-County at Blue Needles Golf Course.

Ryan Anderson scored a 38 while Jordon Danzl and David Keenan each shot a 39 for Salt Fork, who is 8-0.

DANVILLE — Andy Bott shot a 42 as the Blue Devils defeated Watseka and Westville in a triangular match at Harrison Park.

Stephen Krout and Austin Toler each shot a 43 while Jared Anderson scored a 45 for Bismarck-Henning, who scored a 173 as a team.

Brett Cox had a 50 to lead Westville, who scored 211 as a team. Adam Bryant scored a 52, Chase Henry scored a 54 and Bryce Cox carded a 55.

OXFORD, Ind. — Kelcey Swisher was the medalists with a score of 43, but the Patriots could not beat Rensselaer Central.

Christen Lord scored a 49, Meredith House had a 59 and Tori Tanner had a 64 for Seeger, who will face McCutcheon on Thursday.

DANVILLE — Matt Chamberlain and Adam Pellegrini each scored goals as the Hilltoppers shut out Unity.

Nigel Martindill and Austin Calhoun each had assists for Schlarman while Andrew Kelly had five saves for the victory.

The Hilltoppers area 3-3 and will host Salt Fork/Westville on Thursday.

MAHOMET — The Cornjerkers jumped to an early 2-0 lead, but could not stop Mahomet-Seymour’s offense in non-conference action.

“We just need to get better on defense,” Hoopeston Area/Bismarck-Henning coach John Klaber said. “We have to focus on playing defense as a team instead of individually.

Ian Park had a goal and two assists for the Cornjerkers while Seth Talbott, Brandon Clapp and Trevor Rush each had a goal and Kraig Van Wieringen had an assist.

HABH is 2-2-1 and will face Oakwood on Thursday.

ATTICA, Ind. — Addison Newell, Graham Kennedy and Seth Lynch won singles matches for the Patriots in their sweep against the Red Ramblers.

Nick Sewell and Cody Bowles and Issac Foxen and Morgan Evans each won doubles matches for Seeger, who will face Turkey Run today.

Attica is 1-6 and will play Rockville on Thursday.

North Montgomery 4

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The doubles teams of Jacob Wright and Jared Cates got the only victory for the Trojans but could not get any more victories against North Montgomery.

Covington is 4-6 and will face Fountain Central on Thursday.

HOOPESTON — Wendy Braddock had six kills as the Cornjerkers picked up their first home win of the season 25-17, 25-16 over Donovan.

J.C. Samet had five kills, Devon McFadden had six aces, Jenna Zollar picked up seven assists and Ciera Wilburn got six blocks for Hoopeston Area, who are 2-5 and will face Westville on Thursday.

HUME — Heather Baker had eight kills, four blocks and two aces as the Storm beat Shiloh 25-9, 25-23.

Megan McCord had six kills, four aces and 14 digs, Maddie Stutsman had two kills, two aces and 17 assists and Emilie McFadden had five kills, two blocks and an ace for Salt Fork, who are 5-1 and will face Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Thursday.

Milford 2

Oakwood 0


MILFORD — Ashlen Portwood had five kills and six digs as the Bearcats won their Vermilion Valley Conference opener 25-21, 25-10 over Oakwood.

Kinsey Knauth had two kills and nine assists for Milford, while Brittany Cameron had three kills and five digs and Golene Thursh added nine digs.

The Bearcats are 5-3 and will host Armstrong-Potomac on Thursday.

South Vermillion 1


WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Erin Kincade had two kills, two aces and 13 assists for the Patriots, who defeated South Vermillion 25-18, 27-25, 13-25, 25-23.

Chandler Huber and Sierra Budreau each had four kills for Seeger, while Morgan Akers had three blocks and Desiree Steward had 11 assists and two aces.

The Patriots are 5-5 overall and will host North Vermillion on Thursday.

N. Montgomery 3

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Abby Grubb had two kills, but the Mustangs did not have enough firepower against North Montgomery and lost 25-19, 25-12, 25-11.

Shelby Allen had four assists while Lindsey Haddock had tow assists and Kaitlyn Galloway had eight digs for Fountain Central, who will host Southmont on Thursday.
