LOCAL ROUNDUP: Blue Devils win Cornjerker Classic

HOOPESTON —  The Bismarck-Henning boys basketball team won the Cornjerker Classic on Saturday, finishing an undefeated run with a 61-44 win over Milford and a 65-59 win over Donovan.

Against the Bearcats, Austin Toler had 18 points, while Andy Bott had 12, Austin Reinken had 11 and Wilde Garowski added 10.

Jacob Rogers had 14 points for Milford, while Jeff Cann had 13 and Josh Killion added 11.

Against Donovan, Toler had 25 points with 19 after halftime, while Garowski had 15 and Bott scored 12.

Host Hoopeston Area bead Iroquois West 49-44 and Mason Layden had 16 points and Brennan Crose added 14.

Oakwood 47


PAXTON — Kyle Elliott had 23 points, but the Comets could not hang on with the firepower of Beecher in the fifth place game of the Interstate Tournament.

Davin Miles, Kyle Girton, Andrew Curley, Skyler Slade and Cameron Cawley each had four points for Oakwood, who will face Armstrong-Potomac on Thursday.

Elliott was named to the All-Tournament team.

PAXTON — Wade Rogers has 18 points, but it was not enough as the Trojans lost to Grant Park in the seventh-place game of the Interstate Tournament.

Dentler Loschen had 16 points for Armstrong-Potomac, who was up 33-29 at halftime and 47-46 after the third quarter, while Shawn Johnson had 15 points.

The Trojans will face Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on Tuesday.

Rogers was named to the All-Tournament team.

Cornjerkers 2-1 in Rantoul


RANTOUL — Dylan Pate (113 pounds) Gage Foster (138), Jonny Martin (152) and Justin Kindle (285) each won three matches as Hoopeston Area beat Unity 48-24 and Dwight 36-18, but lost to host Rantoul 39-30.

Josh Johnson (132) and Jacob Varns (220) each won two matches for the Cornjerkers, who will wrestle Prairie Central and Herscher on Tuesday.

FREEPORT, Bahamas — The Illini shot only 32 percent as they lost to the Cyclones in the championship game of the Junkanoo Jam.

Ivory Crawford had 11 points with three steals for the Illini, who was down 29-21 at halftime, while Karisma Penn had 10 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals, Amber Moore had nine points and six assists and Taylor Tuck and Nia Oden each had eight points.

The Illini are 3-1 and will play Wake Forest on Thursday as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

CAPE COD, Mass. — The Dashers equaled their win total from last year with a win over the Bluefins.

Darick Ste. Marie and Jonathan Juliano each had a goal and an assist for Danville while Billy Hunt, Ryan Stern and Phillippe St.-Laurent each had a goal.

Shawn McNulty had two assists while Dustin Skinner, Justin Levac, Ryan Huggett and David Lun each had one.

The Dashers are 4-9 and will play Cape Cod again today.
