Seeger girls set to play

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Seeger girls basketball coach Brent Rademacher will have one final chance to coach a number of his players this weekend.

Five Patriot players will be on the Western Indiana All-Star Girls team for the Battle For the Border All-Star Classic today at the David S. Palmer Arena and Saturday at Covington High School in Covington, Ind.

“It’s pretty good to come back together and it gives us a second chance to win our final game,” Rademacher said. “We have met three times and it has been great.”

The Patriots had a 20-6 record and won sectional and regional titles before losing in a Class 2A semistate game to Fort Wayne Luers.

Kelcey Swisher, Christen Lord, Kelsey Griswold, Arielle Verhey and Miranda Synesael are the five Seeger players with Synesael added to the team for more depth.

“She is an underclassman and she has helped us out in practice,” Rademacher said. “She may play because there are fairs going on this weekend and some of our girls are in 4-H so things might conflict.”

Along with the group from Seeger, Fountain Central’s Chelsea Carver and Madison Stockdale, North Vermillion’s Casey West and Benton Central’s Ayren Cobb.

“I know all of them well,” Rademacher said. “We played Benton Central last season and played them 3-4 times last summer. I think that is a good advantage to have.”

“It is good that we have come together one last time,” Swisher said. “We are just going to go out and have some fun.”

The team’s tightness will be a good thing against the Eastern Illinois team’s height.

“We are not a big team and we don’t have anyone that plays a true post position,” Rademacher said. “I think we can use our speed to get

“We saw them at the banquet and they were pretty big,” Swisher said. “But all of us have had to play tall teams before and we did pretty good against them, so I think we will do a good job and it will be a great weekend.”

Today’s game will start at 5:30 p.m. while Saturday’s game will be at 5 p.m. Eastern time.
