MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Freshman Neil Fertig smashed a pair of home runs and drove in three runs as the Danville Area Community College baseball team defeated Dean (Mass.) College 12-6 on Sunday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The victory for the Jaguars was their first this season and came after DACC dropped a 4-1 decision to Owens (Ohio) Community College earlier Sunday.
“For this being our first games on our first day outside, I’m pleased,’’ DACC coach Tim Bunton said.
After being held to just one run on five singles and double in the first game, the Jaguars pounded out 15 hits, including five doubles and Fertig’s two home runs. He also contributed a pair of singles in the win.
Adam Kirk, a sophomore from Indianapolis, had two doubles, a single and three RBIs, while sophomore Patrick Foster finished with a single, a double and two RBIs. Also picking up multiple hits for DACC were Alex Potter and former Georgetown-Ridge Farm standout Blake Wadsworth.
Shane Sullivan (1-0) earned the victory in relief for DACC. Former Schlarman standout Aaron Lewellyn sustained the loss in the opener.
Freshman Bobby Hansen had three of the Jaguars six hits, including an RBI double in the first inning.
DACC continues eight-game series in Myrtle Beach on Monday with a 3 p.m. contest against Ulster (N.Y.), followed by a 6 p.m. game with Delaware Tech of Maryland.
