LOCAL ROUNDUP: Tigers hold on to defeat Hilltoppers

WESTVILLE —  The Westville girls basketball team jumped out to a 36-22 halftime lead but needed to hold on to the final second to pick up a 60-59 win over Schlarman on Thursday in Vermilion Valley Conference action.

Ashley Hoffman led the Tigers with 17 points and four assists, while Carson Richardson had 14 points and eight rebounds; Ji’Cee Lacey had eight points while Dani Gabehart and Morgan Gallion each had seven.

Janelle Marion had 21 points to lead the Hilltoppers, who outscored the Tigers 37-24 in the second half, while Sierra Bell had 17 and Holly Huckstadt added 11.

Schlarman’s Sydne Bryant hit the last shot of the game, but her foot was on the 3-point line, leaving the Hilltoppers one point short.

The Tigers are 6-8 and 4-2 in the VVC and will face Fisher at the first game of the Blue Devil Classic on Dec. 27 while the Hilltoppers will play at the Peoria Manual Holiday Tournament starting on Dec. 27 against Springfield Southeast.

FITHIAN — Erika Sieberns had 15 points as the Trojans got a big lead and never looked back in defeating the Comets.

Johanna Bruens and Rachel Miles each had nine points for Armstrong-Potomac, who had a 20-4 halftime lead and a 35-9 lead after the third quarter.

Harlena Hardin had four points to lead Oakwood while Lexy Terry, Taylor McGlaughlin and Abbagaile Black each had three.

DAYTON, Ohio — The Dashers took a 2-1 lead after the first period, but could not hold on as they lost to the Demonz, which snapped a three-game winning streak.

Billy Hunt and Lee McClure scored in the first for Danville while Ryan Huggett scored in the second and Dustin Skinner scored in the third. Jonathan Juliano, Phillipe St.-Laurent, David Lun, Henry Coxe, Ryan Stern and Justin Levac each had one assist.

Justin Sand had 28 shots on goal for the Dashers, who will play the Danbury Whalers today.
