LOCAL ROUNDUP: Vikings, Toppers both win at Peoria

PEORIA — After some tough days at the Peoria Manual Christmas Tournament, both Danville and Schlarman girls basketball teams had a happy ending on Saturday, winning their last games of the tournament.

Danville defeated Peoria High 37-28 as Alexus Jimson-Miller scored 16 points with eight of them coming in the first quarter to give the Vikings a 12-6 lead and they would not look back from there.

Kaylynn Mason had six points for the Vikings, while Michaela Jones had four and Jade Carter added three.

Schlarman’s last game was more exciting as the Hilltoppers scored 27 points in the last period to beat out Lincoln 64-63.

Sierra Bell had 23 points, while Janelle Marion had 20, Sydney Bryant added eight and Holly Huckstadt scored six.

Schlarman returns to action Thursday against Georgetown-Ridge Farm while the Vikings will travel to Normal West on Jan. 5.

KANSAS — Layn White had 16 points as the Tigers captured third place at the Tri-County Tournament with a win over Stewardson-Strasburg.

Robert Elliott had 12 points for Westville and was the only Tiger to be named to the All-Tournament team, while Kyle Brazas had 11 and Tanner Cox and Jeffery Thompson each had nine points.

The Tigers will next play Salt Fork on Friday.

CHAMPAIGN — Bismarck-Henning went through two days of action at the St. Thomas More Invitational and defeated Urbana University High 54-15 for their only win of the tournament.

Morgan Supergan (285 pounds) led the way with seven wins, Jared Noel (170) and MacKenzie Noel (182) each had five, Dalton Edwards (106) and Garrett McCalla (113) had four and Cole Huber (120) and Tyler Pasley (145) had three.

Cornjerkers compete at Bomber Classic

ARGENTA — Gage Foster was the highest finisher for Hoopeston Area with a second place finish at 138 pounds at the Bomber Classic.

Dylan Pate (113) and Ethan Linder (285) were each fifth for the Cornjerkers while Josh Johnson was sixth at 126 and Devin Cartwright was eighth at 106.

The Cornjerkers will next compete at the Hawk Classic on Saturday.

Fountain Central seventh at Invite

INDIANAPOLIS — Jordan Oakley (120) and Billy Pigg (195) were each 4-1 as the Mustangs took seventh out of 17 teams at the Giant 16 Invitational at Indianapolis Ben Davis High School.

“We prepared for it a long time through winter break to get ready for this tournament,” Fountain Central Coach Kameron Banes said. “I think we wrestled well in the tournament and they got the wins they were supposed to plus a little more.”

Alex Haddock (132), Trevor Loveall (160), Kyle Byers (170), Jared Short (182) were each 3-2 for the Mustangs, who will face Crawfordsville on Thursday.

DANVILLE — Ryan Stern scored the game-winning goal in the third period as the Dasher defeated the Demonz.

David Lun, Dustin Skinner and Justin Levac scored goals for Danville while Stern, Kevin McCready, Chris Affinati, Shawn McNulty, Darick Ste Marie, Skinner and Henry Coxe each had assists.

Justin Sand had 49 saves in goal for the Dashers, who will host Dayton again on Monday.
