LOCAL ROUNDUP: Viking girls lose final Classic game

CHAMPAIGN — CHAMPAIGN — The Danville girls basketball team’s final game of the Blue Star Classic was against the host Centennial Chargers and the deeper, more experienced Chargers jumped out to a 10-0 lead to get a 53-17 win on Tuesday.

Breanna Keys led the Vikings with eight points while Alexus Jimson-Miller had six points and Kristi Burghart had three.

The Vikings will try to regroup on Nov. 29, when they will have their first home game of the season against Decatur Eisenhower.

CHAMPAIGN — Abby Bergman had 15 points, but the Blue Devils could not over come a 22-11 halftime deficit in the Blue Star Classic.

Addie Voyles had six points for Bismarck-Henning, who are 1-4 and will face Milford on Nov. 29.

Westville 41

FITHIAN —Danielle Gabehart had 14 points as the Tigers got past the Cardinals at the Oakwood Comet Classic.

Ashley Hoffman had 12 points for Westville, who was down 4-3 after the first quarter but would outscore Chrisman 17-7 in the second to take the lead for good, while JoDee Ottino had nine points.

Shelby Warner had 12 points to lead the Cardinals while Avoree Switzer had eight and Chey Warner added six.

Westville will play Milford today in Classic action while Chrisman will wait to see who it will play during the last day of action on Friday.

Oakwood 22


FITHIAN — Delaney Durst had eight points, but the Comets lost to Blue Ridge at the Oakwood Comet Classic.

Harlena Harden had six points and Sadie Edwards added five for Oakwood, who will face Hoopeston Area today in Classic action.

ARMSTRONG — Rachel Miles and Erika Sieberns each had nine points, but it was not enough as the Trojans lost to Iroquois West at home.

Morgan Zindars had five points while Johanna Bruens added four for Armstrong-Potomac, who will next play Oakwood on Nov. 29.

PAXTON — Wade Rogers had 24 points, but the Trojans were outscored 50-22 in the second half by Tri-Valley at the Interstate Classic.

Shawn Johnson had eight points for Armstrong-Potomac, while Dentler Loschen had six points.

The Trojans continue play in the tournament Friday against Oakwood.

PAXTON — Kyle Elliott had 19 points, but the Comets did not have enough offense to catch the host Panthers at the Interstate Classic.

Skyler Slade had 16 points for Oakwood while Andrew Curley had six.

DACC ranked No. 4


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Jaguars climbed one spot to get to No. 4 in the NJCAA national poll, also clinching the highest spot in school history.

DACC is 8-1 and is second in the nation in scoring with an average of 82.1 in their first nine games, led by Derek Shouse’s 14.6 points per game, Mike Ryce is averaging 13.4 and Chris Whitehead averages 10.2.

The Jaguars will play the Olivet Nazarene junior varsity team on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
