LOCAL ROUNDUP: Verkler’s season ends in state prelims

EVANSTON — The season for Danville’s Kristen Verkler ended on Friday in the preliminaries of the IHSA state swim meet.

Verkler was 28th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 11.02 seconds, which put her at 28th and was 19th in the 100 butterfly (57.44), which were seven places back of the last qualifying spot.

FITHIAN — Maya Green had 15 points as the Buffaloes beat Blue Ridge at the Comet Classic.

Callan Hall and Brittany Hay each had 11 for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, who was up 23-16 at halftime, while Catie Brandt added five.

The Buffaloes are 2-0 and will face Oakwood today in Classic action.

OAKWOOD — Ashley Hoffman had 10 points, but it was not enough as the Tigers lost their first game at the Comet Classic.

Ji’Cee Lacey had eight points for Westville, while JoDee Ottino had seven and Danielle Gabehart added six.

The Tigers are 0-2 and will face Urbana University High today.

FITHIAN — Sarah Ellis had 14 points, but the Cardinals lost to Urbana University High in overtime at the Comet Classic.

Shelby Warner had 10 points for Chrisman, while Chey Warner had eight and Abbi Bush added seven.

The Cardinals drop to 1-1 and will play Milford and Heritage today in Classic action.

FISHER — Janelle Marion had 19 points as the Hilltoppers took seventh place at the Lady Falcons and Bunnies Tip-Off Classic.

Sydne Bryant had 16 points while Sierra Bell had 10 and Ella Black added five for Schlarman, who are 2-2 and will next play Nov. 29 against Hoopeston Area.

CARTERVILLE — Every player scored for the Lady Jaguars as they easily won their first game at the John A. Logan Classic.

Javonna Smith led the way with 24 points for DACC, who caused 39 Triton turnovers and held them to only 11-of-44 from the field. Tierra Golightly had 15 points with three steals.

Megan Hiner and Samantha Siddens each had 10 points with Siddens getting eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Stephanie Lord had nine points and five assists and Kameren Cole, Hillary Lively and Paige Thevenin each getting eight points.

The Lady Jaguars will continue play in the tournament today.

Supergan named to

All-State Team


BISMARCK — Bismarck-Henning defensive lineman Morgan Supergan was named to the Class 2A All-State team by the Illinois Football Coaches Association.

Supergan had over 70 tackles and four sacks with five force fumbles and 20 tackles for loss for the Blue Devils, who were 10-1 this season.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. — The Dashers took the lead but lost it with a late goal by the Privateers, who would go on to score the winning goal in overtime.

Jonathan Juliano had two goals for Danville while Dustin Skinner had one and Ryan Huggett had two assists and Ryan Stern and Joe Pace each had one.

Josselin St. Pierre had 35 saves in goal for the Dashers, who will play Williamsport today.
