LINCOLN —
Legendary country music artist Jerry Reed released “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot” way back in 1971.
And that song is very fitting for the recent success of the Danville Area Community College men’s basketball team.
For the second time in two weeks, the Jaguars pulled off a major upset on the road in the Mid-West Athletic Conference.
On Wednesday night, DACC overcame a 13-point deficit to upset the sixth-rated Lincoln College Lynx 72-68.
“These guys are playing with so much confidence right now,’’ DACC coach Mike Carpenter said. “They came back from Christmas break with a totally different mindset. They have been playing for each other rather than playing for themselves and the results speak volumes.’’
The Jaguars, who improved to 13-11 overall and 3-1 in the league, have moved into a first-place tie in the Mid-West Athletic Conference with the Lynx, who are the two-time defending NJCAA Division II National Champions.
Lincoln, which led 40-35 at halftime, extended its advantage to 59-46 with just over 10 minutes left.
“We called a timeout and reminded our guys that this has been the point when Lincoln has put teams away,’’ Carpenter said. “We came out with a run of our own and took a 61-60 lead with about four minutes left.
“Once we got ahead, we never gave up that lead.’’
Sophomore Shea Sumpter followed up his career-best performance on Saturday with his second straight 23-point game. He also pulled down nine rebounds for the Jaguars. Also scoring in double figures for DACC were Evan Blackmon with 17 and Brandon Demmings finished with 12.
Up next for DACC is the Illinois Central College Cougars, the only team to beat the Jaguars in 2012. Tipoff for next Wednesday’s game at the Mary Miller Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.

LINCOLN — Coming off its biggest win in a decade, the Lady Jaguars stumbled on the road against the Lady Lynx.
Lincoln outscored DACC 44-24 in the second half to earn the 12-point victory in a Mid-West Athletic Conference contest.
“This was a bad loss after a good win,’’ DACC coach Kyle Bent said. “We didn’t have the energy, and we didn’t have the focus that we had on Saturday.’’
DACC, which fell to 16-7 overall and 2-3 in the MWAC, was coming off the school’s first win over Parkland in more than 10 years.
“We just didn’t show up and when you do that in this league, you are going to get beat,’’ Bent added.
Kayton Cole had a game-high 27 points for the Lady Jaguars, while former North Vermillion standout Hillary Lively finished with 10. Quite a contrast from Saturday when DACC had five players in double figures.
Things will not get any easier for DACC on Saturday as the Lady Jaguars travel to East Peoria to play Illinois Central College.
