Warstler on top at Paxton

PAXTON — Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman’s Nathan Warstler won the boys individual title as the Buffaloes finished second as a team in Saturday’s Paxton-Buckley-Loda Invitational.

Warstler’s time of 15 minutes and 45.9 seconds beat out Oakwood’s Justin Jones’ time of 16:04.9. Another local finisher in the top 10 was Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman’s Matt Morris in 6th with a time of 17:00.

The Buffaloes was second with 66 points, only second behind PBL’s 49. Oakwood was eighth with 194, Bismarck was 10th with 270 as Luke Switzer was 19th (17:40) and Schlarman was 11th with a 308as Mike Larson was 59th (20:21).

In the girls race, Salt Fork/Westville’s Andrea Martis was fifth with a time of 20:39 as the Storm was third as a team with 84. Oakwood was fourth with 92 as Ashley Sermak was the top finisher at 10th place (21:50) and Bismarck-Henning was sixth with a score of 105 and Heather Siddens was eighth (21:30).

Mallory Devore was the top finisher for Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman at ninth place (21:36), Ashley Houmes was 11th for Hoopeston Area (22:05) and Whitney Fox was 26th for Schlarman (23:27).

Vikings teams finish 17th in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Both Danville teams each got 17th place in the Lee Halburg Invitational.

The top finish fro the boys team was Jordan Stipp with a time of 18 minutes, 18 seconds — Good for 69th place while the top finish for the girls team is Janelle Hensold, who was 53rd (22:05).

“We worked hard and we were able to get some good personal bests,” Danville coach Paul Marana said. “We did well, but we were going against teams with kids who focus on this full time.”

DECATUR — J.B. Cromwell scored two goals as the Vikings scored all of their goals in the second half.

After being down 1-0 at halftime, Jake Miller started the scoring in the second with an assists by Devin Geisert.

Gardner Peck had four saves for Danville, who is 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 Conference and will travel to Mattoon on Tuesday.

BLOOMINGTON — Senior Casey Smutz scored twice as the Hilltoppers won its seventh consecutive match.

Jarred Lazzell had a goal and two assists for Schlarman (7-0), while senior Pete Goodwin scored the fourth and final goal for the Hilltoppers.

Schlarman outshot Bloomington Central Catholic 21-5.

Salt Fork-Westville 1

CATLIN — Despite outshooting the Bunnies, the Storm Tigers were on the short-end of the scoreboard.

After Stevenson Harby scored in the second minute, Salt Fork-Westville had seven more shots that were turned away.

“We had our offensive chances, we just didn’t capitalize,’’ said Salt Fork-Westville coach Phil Cox.

ROACHDALE, Ind. — Taylor Dennis scored twice to lead the Trojans past the Cougars.

Covington (2-1-1) also got a goal and an assist from Tra Cruea as the Trojans outshot their opponents 31-6.

Fountain Central wins Invitational

THORNTOWN, Ind. — The Mustangs’ doubles teams of Dane Alexander and Josh Davenport and Phillip Koonce and Adam Walters swept the titles race as Fountain Central won the Western Boone Invitational.

Fountain Central was undefeated in the tournament with 4-1 wins over Western Boone and Rossville and a 5-0 win over Turkey Run.

Bryce McTagertt won the No. 3 singles title for the Mustangs, who are 9-3 overall and will face Seeger on Monday.

Delphi 1

DELPHI, Ind. — Clay Andrews and Cameron Kirkpatrick each won their singles matches as the Patriots cruised past Delphi.

Ryan Synesael and Colton Craigin won their doubles match while Andrew Stricker and Spencer Baldock won by forfeit.

The Patriots are 4-1 and will face Fountain Central on Monday.

LeCleir third at

Mattoon Invite

MATTOON — Danville’s Lisa LeCleir took third in the No. 1 singles tournament at the Mattoon Invitational, winning the third-place match 6-2, 6-2 over Allison Halloway of Effingham.

Chloe Roberts was the only other Viking to get a win. Roberts got the win in her second match of the No. 3 singles tournament.

The Vikings will return to dual meet action on Sept. 19 against Centennial.

Attica sweeps to win own invite

ATTICA, Ind. — The Red Ramblers lost only one game as they won the Attica Invitational, defeating Bismarck-Henning 25-21, 25-21; Turkey Run 25-1, 25-19 and Rockville 25-22, 14-25, 25-18.

Brittany Rayburn had 43 kills and 13 blocks for the day, Elizabeth Waters had 35 assists and eight aces, Steffi Rayburn had 12 aces and nine kills, Kelsey Randles had 20 digs and 10 kills and Mary Mattern had 26 assists.

The Red Ramblers are 10-3 and will play Southmont on Thursday.

PARIS — Swazie Cromwell had eight kills as the Vikings swept the Tigers 25-22, 25-15.

Ashley Dietz had 10 assist and three aces, Taryn Nohmer had eight assists and two aces and Molly Walton had seven digs and two aces.

College Volleyball

DACC gets fourth in first invite

DANVILLE — The Lady Jaguars went 1-2 in the round-robin format of the first DACC Invitational of the season before losing in the semifinals to John Wood 30-28, 30-28.

Alison Hoveln had 38 kills, Amanda Wilkins had 86 assists and Amy Stultz and Kacy Miner each had 50 digs for the Jaguars, who will next play on Saturday at the Morton College triangular meet.
