ROUNDUP: Junior Speakers Gold reach title game

Danville Post 210 sweeps Lincoln

DANVILLE — The Danville Post 210 Junior Speakers Gold are just one win away from the state tournament.

Danville reached Tuesday’s championship game of the Fourth Division Tournament at Freedom Field in Danville with wins over Urbana 11-6 and Kansas 6-4.

The Junior Speakers Gold (25-5) will play either Mahomet or Champaign Red in the 4:45 title game on Tuesday at Freedom Field.

Tyler Burton led Danville to its opening win over Urbana as he had two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.

Also providing some offensive punch for the Junior Speakers Gold was Clayton Snyder, who had a single, a home run and three RBIs.

Zane Dillon got the victory for the Post 210 junior squad, while Cody Burton got the final outs.

Cody Randolph was a bright spot for Urbana as he had a double, two home runs and three RBIs in the losing cause.

Danville fell behind 1-0 in the game against Kansas but the Junior Speakers took the lead with a three-run fourth inning.

Kansas tied it up with two in the fifth and Danville took the lead for good with three in the sixth.

Brady Leeman had three of the seven hits for the Junior Speakers Gold, with two singles and a double.

Snyder contributed a single, a double and another RBI. Also driving in runs for Danville were Dillon, Leeman and Casey Fletcher.

Dennis Forrest picked up the win for the Junior Speakers Gold, while Cody Burton got the final out for the save.

CLINTON — The Post 210 Speakers scored 28 runs on 28 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln.

Michael Kasper was the offensive star in the opener as he had a single, two doubles and five RBIs for the Speakers (26-14).

That was more than enough offense for starter Taylor Dennis, who went six innings, allowing just one hits, while walking three and striking out five.

Dennis improved to 5-0 with the win.

Other batters with multiple hits for Danville were Chase Sanford with three, Vinnie Miller and Brandon Jones with two each.

In the second game of the twinbill, Ty Montgomery was the big hitter in the Danville lineup.

Montgomery had two singles, a double and a grand slam home run to go along with five RBIs.

Jordan Barney was the benefactor of the offense as the right-hander threw six shutout innings, allowing just four singles, while walking none and striking out six.

Barney also had a single, a home run and two RBIs for the Speakers.

Danville is idle until Thursday when the Speakers open the District 18 Tournament in Marshall against the host team.
