ROUNDUP: Dans beat Sliders

5-run second propels Danville past Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — With five strikeouts to start the game, Danville Dans manager Pete Paciorek had to wonder about his team’s approach.

The next eight hitters proved to him that they were ready for this pivotal road trip.

Danville scored five runs in the second inning en route to a 9-6 victory over the Slippery Rock Sliders at Jack Critchfield Park.

Austin Green started the two-out rally for the Dans (13-13). Cody Yount, who had missed the last four games with an illness, drove home the first run and Nate Johnson capped it with a bases-loaded double.

“That was eight quality at-bats in a row with two outs,’’ Danville manager Pete Paciorek said. “After an eight-hour bus ride, these guys showed that they came ready to play after that second inning.’’

Donovan Drake allowed just one run in five innings to get the victory, while Brett Huber preserved the victory with six strikeouts in relief.

The Dans continue their three-game road trip through the East Division of the Prospect League tonight with a 6:35 p.m. (EDT) contest against the Butler BlueSox. Danville will send Justin Amlung (1-0, 2.77 ERA) the mound.
