DANVILLE — The Danville Inferno came very close to getting its first win of the season on Sunday at the David S. Palmer Arena, taking the lead at one time against the CW Saints before losing a close 8-7 decision.
Before Sunday’s game, the closest the Inferno came to a victory was within three goals four times during the season.
Anthony Fairchild and Vincent D’Andrea each scored in the first period for Danville as they tied things up with the Saints at 2-2.
Bradley Voice would score early in the second period, giving the Inferno a rare lead in a game and it lasted until almost the end of the period, when the Saints tied things up at 3-3.
Joshua Schneider, Justin Maurizi, D’Andrea and Joshua Hansen each scored for Danville in the third, but the Saints were too much, scoring five goals to get the win.
Logan Boehm and Schneider each had two assists for Danville, while Ryan Whalen, Voice, James Allen and D’Andrea each had one.
Taylor Ludy had 64 saves for Danville, who is 0-16 and will be on the road this weekend with games Saturday and Sunday against Wisconsin.
