PALOS HEIGHTS — After a defeat to Lincoln Trail in its opener, the Danville Area Community College basketball team would rebound on Friday to win its first game of the season at the Moraine Valley Classic, defeating St. Xavier 95-76.
After having only a 41-36 halftime lead, the Jaguars started the second half with a 9-0 runs and led by as much as 26 points for the rest of the game.
DACC has a balanced attack with five players — Derwin Gage (16), Tim Toler (15), Quintin Townsend (13) and Kyle Bradley (11) — each scoring in double figures.
The Jaguars committed only 11 turnovers and had 17 assists and out-rebounded St. Xavier 40-32.
“We did a much better job tonight of taking care of the basketball,” DACC coach Mike Carpenter said. “We had good balanced scoring and our kids are starting to understand how we want them to play.”
The Jaguars will continue play in the tournament today against the Northwestern University club team at 2 p.m.
