WINNETKA — Danville girls swimmer Lauren Drennan did just enough in the 100-yard butterfly preliminary at the IHSA State meet on Friday to advance to action today.
Drennan was 10th in the event with a time of 57.94 seconds, which puts her into today’s consolation finals. She was also 27th (25.11) in the 50 freestyle.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Drennan, Kristin Verkler, Sunny Strader and Eden Jackowski was 32nd (3:46.57) in the event.

CHAMPAIGN — Eriel Davis scored 21 points for the Vikings, but they could not get on the winning track at the Blue Star Classic.
Jazmyn Harris and Barisha Keys each had four for Danville, who lost a 13-6 first quarter lead by getting outscored 38-22 the rest of the way by Monticello.
The Vikings are 0-3 and will face Paris today at 12:30 p.m.

GIBSON CITY — Ali Burkowski had 12 points 11 rebounds, three steals and three assists as the Hilltoppers won their final game at the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Tournament.
Mariah Skaggs and April Cahill each had seven points for Schlarman with Skaggs picking up seven rebounds. Mandy Bianchetta had four points and six rebounds and Lynzie Fields had three points, two steals and three assists.
For her efforts during the week, Burkowski was named to the All-Tournament Team.

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Kelcey Swisher had 18 points as the Patriots easily defeated the Trojans.
Abby Sexton had eight points and Arielle Verhey had seven for Seeger, who held Covington to just four points in the first half.
Carley Coffman and Kalia Hegg led the Trojans with four points each.

Rayburn sets a career high
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Attica graduate Brittany Rayburn set another career-high in points with 26 as Purdue defeated Seattle 69-38 in the Basketball Travelers Classic.
Rayburn added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Boilermakers and bested her previous high of 23 points set last week against Western Illinois.
Chelsea Jones had 12 points, FahKara Malone had eight points and five assists and Jodi Howell, KK Houser and Ashley Wilson each had six points for Purdue.
The Boilermakers are 2-0 and will face Dayton today at 4 p.m.

Bieser new Dans manager
DANVILLE — The Dans named former major leaguer Steve Bieser as manager of the team for 2010 season.
Bieser played 13 years for six major league organizations along with two years at the major league level with the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Bieser is currently the head baseball coach at St. John Vianney High School in Kirkwood, Mo. and has led the team to two state championships with a career record of 120-34. He has coached five players picked in the MLB draft and 80 percent of his players have played college baseball.
