DANVILLE —
The 2013 spring trout fishing season in Illinois will begin at 5 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Director Marc Miller announced Wednesday.
“Here in Illinois, we are committed to providing ways for families and children to get outdoors and enjoy nature, and the spring trout season is a great opportunity to do just that,” Miller said. “Anglers of all ages can join in the fun as we stock trout at 42 locations throughout the state.”
The IDNR stocks more than 60,000 rainbow trout each spring in bodies of water where trout fishing is permitted during the spring season. The Illinois catchable trout program is fully funded through the sale of inland trout stamps to those anglers who participate.
Illinois fishing licenses and inland trout stamps are available at DNR Direct license and permit locations, including many bait shops, sporting goods stores and other retail outlets. For a location near you, check the IDNR website at this link: http://dnr.illinois.gov/DNRDirectMonitor/VendorListing.aspx
Fishing licenses and trout stamps can also be purchased by using a credit card through DNR Direct online via the IDNR website at www.dnr.illinois.gov, or by calling DNR Direct toll-free at 1-888-6PERMIT (1-888-673-7648).
Kickapoo gets new
employees
Kickapoo State Park has two new full-time employees who began working for the park on Jan. 2. A third full-time employee has been approved but has not been hired as of Wednesday of this week.
The two dollar a year increase on license plate renewal is earmarked for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and will be used for repair on state parks as well as additional personnel.
Two campsite hosts will be at Kickapoo this year and a third is being sought. If you have the time, stop by the Kickapoo office and discuss the matter with the superintendent.
About now, I’m ready for Punxsutawney Phil stew! I’m tired of this cold, crummy weather. I’m sure a groundhog makes a great stew; I know they make a great barbecue!
