After losing a close first game to Danville on Thursday, the Bismarck-Henning volleyball team returned the favor in the second and cruised in the third game to win 22-25, 25-22, 25-11.
“The first game was back and forth. … There had to have been 20 ties,” Bismarck-Henning coach Susan Kentner said. “In the second game, we were down 22-20, but we came back to win. We jumped out to a big lead in the third game and we did not let them into the game.”
Danville coach Steve Houghton said the game came down to a few calls that officials didn’t make.
“It was a close game throughout but we got our legs cut off a few times during the game because the officials did not do a good job calling an illegal move from the back row,” Houghton said. “It just rubbed me the wrong way.”
Samantha Siddens had nine kills and four aces for the Blue Devils while Miranda Witty had seven kills, Lauren McKenzie had 16 assists and five aces, Taylor Ellis had 11 assists and Emily Hufford had four blocks.
Shawneis Jones had 12 kills to lead the Vikings while Holly Powell had 10 assists, Morgan King had eight assists and two aces and Jordan McCoy had 13 digs.
Houghton had different lineup for each game during the match with only Jones and McCoy playing in each one.
“We are figuring out the best lineup for us and tonight went a long way to get the right one,” Houghton said.
The Blue Devils are 2-1 and will play on Thursday against Schlarman while Danville is 1-1 and will travel to the Champaign Centennial Tournament on Saturday.

SHELDON — Ashlen Portwood had nine kills, but the Bearcats lost to St. Anne 21-25, 28-26, 25-19.
“It was a tough game, we just couldn’t seem to get out hits on the ground,” Milford coach Nickole Sparks said. “St. Anne was very good defensively tonight.”
Brittany Cameron and Carly White each had six kills and Kinsey Knauth had 22 assists for the Bearcats, who are 4-3 and will host Oakwood on Tuesday.

GRFC wins triangular
ROSSVILLE — Matt Avenatti and Wyatt Avenatti got the top two spots as the Buffaloes won a triangular meet with Hoopeston Area and St. Anne.
Matt Avenatti won with a time of 18 minutes, 56 seconds and Wyatt Avenatti was second at 19:27 for Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman, who scored 18.
Josh Johnson was third for Hoopeston Area (20:52), who scored a 43.
In the girls race, Lauren Houmes won the race for the Cornjerkers at 20:59 while Megan McKee was second for GRFC (23:33).

PARIS — Salt Fork senior David Keenan fired an even-par 36 to help the Storm defeat the Cardinals.
After Keenan’s round of 36, the Storm got a 37 from Mat Bowen, a 38 from Jordan Danzl and a 39 from Ryan Anderson to round of their scoring.
Chuck Green had the low round for the Cardinals with a 43, while Nick Henry shot a 49 from Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
In the girls competition, Salt Fork’s Heather Ellis had the best round with a 54.

DANVILLE — Jordan King led the Hilltoppers with a 41 as they beat the Tigers at Harrison Park Golf Course.
Dalton Dieu had a 47, Dean Lambert had a 57 and Kylee West carded a 58 for Schlarman.
Brett Cox had a 48, while Adam Bryant carded a 51, Bryce Cox scored a 57 and Jacob Barnard and Chase Henry each had a 58.

DANVILLE — Kegan Decker broke the school record for career goals and had an assist as the Comets shutout the Knights.
Logan Cronk, Conner Youhas and Zach Carnahan each scored goals for Oakwood while Austin Buckley had two saves in goal.
The Comets are 5-1-1 and will take almost a week off before facing Hoopeston Area/Bismarck-Henning on Thursday.
Austin Lazzell had nine saves for the Knights, who are 0-1-1 and will face Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Tuesday.

COVINGTON, Ind. — Michael Spors and Aaron Howard won singles matches as the Trojans defeated the Red Ramblers.
The doubles teams of Jacob Wright and Jared Cates and Phillip Lathrop and Trent McLain each won for Covington, who are 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Wabash River Conference.
Sam Crane got the only win for Attica.

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — The doubles teams of Nick Sewell and Cody Bowles and Issac Foxen and Morgan Evans each won by scores of 6-0, 6-0 as the Patriots got past the Rox.
Addison Newell and Graham Kennedy won singles matches for Seeger, who is 4-1 and 2-0 in the WRC and will face Attica on Tuesday.
