The Danville Post 210 Speakers are back in a very familiar position.
For the 11th time this century, Danville will be playing for a District 18 title after Wednesday’s 5-3 victory over Kansas.
The Post 210 Speakers have won every district tournament under the direction of coach Adam Decker.
Danville got itself into tonight’s 7:45 p.m. championship game by overcoming a 3-1 deficit against Kansas and starting pitcher Kurt Washburn.
The Speakers scratched out two runs in the sixth off Washburn and then they scored twice in the seventh on a throwing error to get the victory.
“I think you could say that we persevered,’’ Decker said. “Washburn pitched at Lake Land, so we were facing a college pitcher. He kept us off-balanced, but we made him work and we finally got to him.’’
Winning pitcher Aaron Lewellyn (5-2) and Cody Burton had run-scoring hits in the sixth. Burton and Zane Dillion, who homered in the third, led the Post 210 attack with two hits each.
Kansas will face Paris at 5:30 today in an elimination game and the winner will face Danville in the title game at 7:45.
Either Kansas or Paris will have to beat Danville tonight and again on Friday to win the title, while the Speakers will only need one win tonight or Friday at 6:30 to earn the title.
