The Hoopeston Area girls basketball team ended play at the Iroquois West Tournament in exciting fashion, beating Gardner-South Wilmington 40-38 on a 3-point shot by Olivia Smith with four seconds left in the consolation championship game.
Before that, the Cornjerkers were down 20-14 at halftime and 27-25 after the third against GSW, but they scored 15 points in the fourth on with Shelby Holzinger getting seven of her team-high 14 points in the quarter.
Holzinger, along with Cayla Davis, each had 10 rebounds. Smith had seven while Davis and Tori Smock had five and Haley and Sarah Dixon each had four points.
Holzinger and Haley Dixon each made the All-Tournament team for the Cornjerkers, who went 3-1 in the tournament and will play Armstrong-Potomac today.

DONALDSON, Ind. — The Jaguars’ bench was on display, scoring 56 points as the team cruised past Ancilla.
David Hicks led the bench players with 16 points, Ronnie White had 15 points, nine rebound and seven blocks, Kody Tucker had 11 points and Raheem Jackson added 10. Chris Whitehead led the Jaguars with 17 points while Evan Blackmon added 10.
DACC took a 19-6 run in the first half to go on to a 28-16 lead and would not trail again. The Jaguars shout 59 percent and out rebounded Ancilla 43-38.
The Jaguars will take on Lincoln Trail on Saturday.

DONALDSON, Ind. — Kamaren Cole had 21 points and seven assists as the Lady Jaguars had no problems against Ancilla.
Javonna Smith got 20 points off the bench for DACC, who had a 51-33 lead at halftime, while Megan Hiner had 17 points and Emily Montgomery had 12 points and four steals.
The Lady Jaguars will also play at Lincoln Trail on Saturday.

CHAMPAIGN — All Illini starters scored in double digits as they defeated the Ducks for their second straight win.
Karisma Penn had 17 points to lead Illinois while Ivory Crawford had 16; Amber Moore added 15, Alexis Smith had 14 and Kersten Magrum scored 12. Penn had 12 rebounds, while Smith had six assists.
The Illini are 6-4 and will play Illinois State on Dec. 21.
